Causes of Concrete Cracks

Causes of Concrete Cracks

Concrete is usually used to cover the foundation of new buildings, but many times, we will find cracks in the concrete. What is the reason? According to my experience, there are four points in total: 1. Irregular construction; 2. The influence of external temperature; 3. There are problems with the quality of raw materials; 4. Foundation settlement

1. The construction of decoration workers is not standardized

Construction technical problems largely determine whether the concrete is cracked. If the decoration workers do not adjust the ratio of cement mortar to water, the concrete will crack during construction later.
As for the correct ratio of cement and water, it is about 1:0.4, that is, 1kg of cement should be mixed with 400g of water.

2. The influence of the external environment

If you want concrete to solidify, the temperature and humidity must meet certain requirements. The temperature should not be too low, try to be above 0°C, and water should be directly poured on the concrete to ensure the humidity. Especially in summer, it needs to be sprinkled 5 times a day, once every 2 hours.
Because concrete releases heat as it sets, it needs to be watered to maintain temperature and humidity, or it will crack.

3. There is a problem with the quality of raw materials

Good cement must have information such as production date, production license, product factory inspection report, etc. If you don’t have it, don’t buy it. Also, don’t buy cement if it’s clumped or wet, as this will reduce its strength and eventually crack.

4. Foundation settlement

Cracking of concrete caused by foundation subsidence is rare, but not impossible. Therefore, before building a house, the foundation must be compacted to prevent any gaps from subsidence. Severe subsidence may even cause the house to collapse.
